Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales, heiress presumptive of the British crown, 1817 The Marriage MissionĪt the time, George III’s reign was the longest in English history. In a period called the British Regency (1810 – 1820), the King’s son George, the Prince of Wales, ruled in his proxy.Īnd in 1817, Princess Charlotte Augusta of Wales, the only child of the Prince Regent died giving birth to a stillborn son, creating a succession crisis. ![]() in the us germans become yankees, while zulus become afro-american).The Succession Crisis George, Prince Regent and Prince of Wales later George IV by Thomas Lawrence, 1816įollowing recurrent mental illness in 1810, King George III was deemed unfit to rule. ![]() And some countries could have all pops assimilate, but only into pops with the same race (e.g. Portugal and France would assimilate everyone no matter the race. IMO depending on policy or laws it should differ who assimilated into whom depending on the race of the pops. The CSA and the Boer states were some extremely racists states and a black person would have never been accepted as one of the white folks. I also found it odd when "black cultures" like afro Americans or zulus were assimilated into Dixie or Boer cultures. Like a brit would be more easily assimilated into yankee culture than say a Russian. Cultures or pops with a specific language assimilate faster or more easily into pops with the same language. Factors like language and race should be somehow included. I mean a complete overhaul of the culture system would be good anyway. Or they'd have to completely rework the culture system so that regional German cultures in the colonies automatically assimilate into a new german colonial culture. There were and are no swabians or bavarians or warmians in German South West Africa, instead they are all germans. And do you realize how long the list of accepted german cultures for Germany would be, over 20 at least if you want to be true to every regional identity in the 19th century. With more german cultures this would result in a cultural mess. In Victoria II it always bugged me when german colonies would develop some strange mix of north and south german instead of plainly german. But I disagree with your proposal to split up german even more. I'd say catch all cultures like african or north caucasian could be split up more. But, if they accepted "Bavarian, German" then primary/secondary Bavarians would be totally accepted, while any "German" would still be If a country accepts only "German" then any pop that is either primarily/secondarily "German" would be accepted. ![]() This would still be pretty easy for primary/accepted cultures for countries. So, if Wisconsin is entirely populated by German immigrants, they wouldn't be "American, Yankee" but still "American, German" and just form a unique distinction that the game can't currently simulate And the last step of assimilation might not happen if there's too few of the target culture. I think it'd be pretty interesting because it would give more insight into the cultures making up an area. Over a generation, the cultures swap as the pop's children identify more with being American than German, but they still have cultural and linguistic ties to GermanĪnd over more generations, the current subgroups within America could come in as well Over a short time, assimilation replaces the Bavarian with Yankee, like how an immigrant might naturalize or otherwise be heavily influenced by the new country's culture So, a German pop group that I migrates to the US might go through a change like:Īfter immigrating to the US, the cultures swap and the "German" one becomes the more identifying one That way you don't end up with weird situations like someone else said about North/South German pops not grouped together after immigration, like they would really consider themselves distinct at that point. I'd like to see the concept of a primary and secondary culture, like hyphenated cultures. ![]()
