In many ways it is pretty much like uTorrent though it is more configurable and its scheduler is the best I've ever seen in any p2p client - very powerful.Īs for using block-lists Tixati can use the lists natively (i.e. You can get it as a portable and run it that way for testing purposes (though I run it as a portable all the time with no problems though you do need to manually set it as the default program to use for "*.torrent" files). ![]() Whilst I use pass phrases instead of passwords (easy to remember, takes a long time to brute force) having numbers, letters (mixed case) and symbols is something I'm never going to remember, so I wrote my forum password down as I'll likely forget it, and I used firefox sync to send a probably unencrypted datastream to godknowswhere so that my moblle phone and windows pc also have the same password. P.s: The password rules here are more rigorous than those used by my bank. I'm a very lazy user, I just want software which I know works with the minimum of effort required! I'd prefer to use peerguardian anyway, as that's easier for me. I saw in the software manager that it supports ipfilter lists, but I did not see that option anywhere in the program. Also, I like using qbittorrent on windows as it's like utorrent but without the adverts, I have used transmission before but I didn't like it, is there a qbittorrent for linux? Edit: Yes there is and it works just like how I expected. I've used the software manager but it can't find it and whilst that guide has instructions for debian and ubuntu nothing on mint. I had peerblock and bittorrent on it and my question is, after looking for a linux alternative I'm told the current active peerblock like project is called peerguardian for linux. Please help! And again, sorry to bring up a dead thread.Hi, I've recently setup a linux computer for one linux exclusive game (don't be patchman) and it's using the hard drives I used to have in a windows 7 computer that I was using as a file server. SO I had to uninstall it to get my internet to work again. Then, when I completely quit out of PG my internet still wasn't working. Only certain sites were allowed, like CNN.com, but not others (like ). When I first attempted to use PG the list wasn't updated (and download speeds were 20-30kbs when his were 200-300kbs and we werre on the same network).Īre they essentially the same just PG is a simpler UI than the PC peerblock?Īlso, How exactly do you use PG for mac? I installed it but when I used it, I couldn't really use the internet. But PeerBlock seems to update the list of blocked IP's when he is downloading something. I googled the mac alternative and it gave me PeerGaurdian but the UI is different (which is also to be expected Mac v PC will have a diff UI). I have a friend on a PC who uses Peerblock. I would like to hypothetically download maybe a show once a week (dexter - showtime show) so I can get a good quality. Now, I'm not going to be using PG for mac to download tons and tons of stuff off the school network (hypothetically). I know that PeerGuardian doesn't block that you're downloading, but does it hide that you're downloading (hypothetically) pirated software, movies, games, etc? My friend tried to tell me that (Peerblocker) masks what you're doing - it just looks like you're using some bandwith. I would like to download stuff but the school puts a restriction after so many gigs downloaded ( I think 10). So I am currently using my college's internet. I googled peer guardian for mac and this came up but I need help. I am sorry for bringing up an almost dead thread, but I did the same thing as "julio". ![]()
